Frequently asked questions about pay and payroll calculators

How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly wage?

Divide the annual salary by the hours you work in a year (weekly hours times 52 for a standard year). The salary-to-hourly calculator does this and lets you adjust for unpaid time off.

How is overtime pay calculated?

Overtime hours are paid at a multiple of the regular hourly rate, commonly 1.5 times (time and a half). The exact threshold and multiplier depend on your jurisdiction and contract, so check local rules.

Are these calculators a substitute for payroll software?

No. They give quick, transparent estimates. Payroll runs need current tax tables, benefits and local rules, so use them to sanity-check numbers, not to file payroll.
