Frequently asked questions about time tracking with Ordio
How does Ordio help with legal documentation requirements?
Hours must be recorded objectively, systematically and verifiably — core to the Working Time Regulations (UK) and EU working-time rules. Must working time be recorded electronically?
Not yet as a general rule in Germany — paper or Excel is allowed if records are complete and reliable. A June 2026 draft bill proposes electronic recording; it is not enacted as of October 2026.
Which employees are exempt from time recording?
Under German working-time law, leading executives (Betriebsführer) are often exempt. For most other staff, recording applies — including trust-based hours and remote work.
Can employers round down short delays to 15 minutes?
Usually no. Recorded time should reflect actual hours worked. Rounding against employees needs a valid agreement; check contract, tariff and works agreement.
How does time recording work in everyday life with Ordio?
On the fly, employees can start and end their own working time with a click in the app, in the browser or at the terminal - depending on what you introduce. Breaks can be clearly mapped and you can keep track of many parallel shifts. You can then check and approve times and prepare the export for accounting without having to type in the same data again in separate tools.
What does Ordio cost - and how do you try it out?

How long must time records be kept?
Under German working-time law, records for days over eight hours must be kept at least two years. Sectors with minimum-wage documentation duties also require at least two years.
Do I need additional hardware for time recording?
Not mandatory: many companies start with app and web. Wherever you want a fixed clocking point, add a terminal instead of classic clock-in solutions - the digital time clock replaces paper lists. The setup scales from small teams to branch chains without having to rewire every workplace. Ordio remains the central instance for data and evaluation.
